Shokyu Taijutsu Training

Shokyu represents the beginning of formal training in Kobukan Taijutsu at a pre-black belt level. It covers essential postures, escapes, and core principles that serve as the technical base for all higher-level training.

9th Kyu - Sokuyaku Geri

In this video, Kancho shows the fundamentals of a front kick using the heel.

7th Kyu - Kamae Gata

In this lesson, Kancho demonstrates the 5 kamae of Kukishin Ryu, with variations.

7th Kyu - Ura Kote Gyaku

In this video, Kancho demonstrates a basic wrist lock with two variations. In Kobukan 8th Kyu, this is part of the series on arm locking strategies.

Chukyu Taijutsu Training

Chukyu is the mid-level phase of Kobukan Taijutsu, where foundational skills are tested under more dynamic conditions. At this stage, students begin learning throwing techniques, ground escapes, joint control transitions, and body pinning. These lessons emphasize balance disruption, flow between positions, and practical control — bridging the gap between kihon and applied taijutsu.

6th Kyu - Ura Koshi Nage

This rear hip throw is part of the Kukishin Ryu throwing series, Nage no Kata.

4th Kyu - Taijime Gata

These body control methods help bridge the gap between balance breaking and high-percentage takedowns.

4th Kyu - Osae Komi Waza

At this level, students should develop a level of comfort on the ground (ne waza), to be able to defend in the event your fall or are taken down.
