Kobukan Shokyu Taijutsu is the first in the series of fundamental Ninpo Taijutsu, as taught in the Kobukan Kobudo Renmei.

Kobukan Taijutsu Shokyu is the foundational training manual for students beginning their formal study within the Kobukan Kobudo Renmei. This book outlines the Sho-Kyu curriculum (9th–7th Kyu) and serves as the primary technical reference for early-stage Taijutsu training.

The material presented in this volume is drawn directly from classical Koryu Ryu-ha transmitted within the Kobukan, and reflects the organization’s commitment to densho-based instruction, transparency, and technical consistency across all dojo and study formats.

Each section emphasizes correct biomechanics, safety, and adaptability, ensuring that students build a strong physical and mental foundation before progressing to more advanced training. Techniques are introduced progressively, with clear explanations and structured repetition designed to support both in-person and remote learning.

This book is intended to be used alongside regular instruction from a qualified Kobukan instructor or Shibu-cho, and functions as a reference guide rather than a substitute for hands-on training. As noted throughout the text, advancement is based on demonstrated proficiency and understanding, not time in grade.

The Kobukan University Shokyu Course provides structured online instruction supporting the Sho-Kyu (9th–7th Kyu) level of Kobukan Taijutsu training. The course is built from video recordings of classes taught directly by James Wright Kancho, presenting the curriculum as it is instructed within the Kobukan.

At this level, instruction focuses on developing correct body movement, posture, distancing, and fundamental principles necessary for safe and effective training. Lessons cover core topics such as Taihenjutsu, basic striking and receiving methods, foundational kamae, and introductory grappling concepts, presented progressively to reinforce proper mechanics and understanding.

Because the material is drawn from Kancho’s actual classes, the course reflects direct transmission of technique and method, ensuring consistency with organizational standards across in-person and remote training. Students are able to observe not only technical execution, but also contextual explanations, pacing, and emphasis as taught during regular instruction.
